Bespoke Rack and Pinion Gearsets Manufactured

The blog featured a large, recently manufactured Rack and Pinion Gearset.

The large rack and pinion were required for a rotary actuator application. A rack and pinion actuator offers greater torque range and range of rotation than its rotary vane counterpart and are generally bigger and longer lasting. Rack and pinions are also used in car steering, railways and stair lifts to help with steering and transportation even at steep inclines.

The pinon is 844mm and the gear is 248mm in diameter.

What is a Gear Set?

A gear is a component within a transmission device that transmits rotational force to another gear or part. Depending on their construction and arrangement, geared devices can transmit forces at different speeds, torques or in a different direction from the power source. The most common application is for a gear to mesh with another gear, but a gear can mesh with any part that has compatible teeth, such as linear moving racks.
